Aspremont-Lynden
The House of
Aspremont-Lynden
descended from
an
ancient
noble
family that by the 14th century had owned the Lordship
of Lienden / Lynden in Gelderland, the
Netherlands.
The Lynden family was divided in several branches [4: tome III; chapitre X;
t.26].
Robert (+1610) and Hermann (+1603), sons of
Dietrich / Dirk of Lynden (+1560), Lord of Dormael, from the Hemmen branch,
founded two sub-branches [10:
Neue Folge; Band VII (1979); t.106].
In 1590, Hermann of Lynden (+1603) bought
the Imperial immediate Barony of Reckheim (Rekem) from the Quadt family
[4: tome III;
p.501] [10:
Neue Folge; Band VII (1998);
t.108].
In March 1623,
the Roman Emperor
granted
Ernst of Lynden (+1636), son of Hermann (+1603),
the title of Imperial Count
and elevated his Barony of Reckheim to the status of County
[8: Band
3;
p.172].
In 1676, Henri of Aspremont ceded his rights to
the Lordship of Aspremont / Apremont-la-Forêt in Lorraine to Count
Ferdinand-Gobert (+1708), grandson of Ernst (+1636); Ferdinand-Gobert changed
his family name to
Aspremont-Lynden
[10: Neue Folge; Band VII (1998);
t.108]
[4: tome III; chapitre X; t.26].
During the French revolutionary wars, the Count
of
Aspremont-Lynden
lost his Imperial immediate County of Reckheim.
In 1803, the Final Recess of the Imperial
Deputation restored the Count of
Aspremont-Lynden
as Imperial immediate territorial ruler by giving him the secularized
Imperial immediate Abbey of Baint [3: Abtheilung II; Band I;
p.334].
In July 1806, the Count of
Aspremont-Lynden
lost his status of territorial ruler, when his Imperial immediate
possession (Baint) was mediatized by the Act of the Confederation of
the Rhine [3: Abtheilung II; Band II; p.183].
In 1819, with the death of Count
Karl-Gobert the Reckheim sub-branch of the Hemmen branch of the Lynden family
became extinct in the male line.
